Phoenix staff focus on the outcomes and value gained by children and young people in AP, including personal development, academic performance and successful transition to appropriate destinations

Personal Development

The provision of opportunities and support to develop the behaviours, skills and character necessary for children and young people’ current and future success, including resilience, confidence, self-management and teamwork.


Enabling all children and young people to attain a broad, ambitious and valuable portfolio of qualifications.

Assessment of Need

Equipping children and young people, parents/carers and future education professionals with the knowledge and understanding necessary to address children and young people's needs at home and in future learning environments.

Appropriate Transition

Robust planning, communication and support that facilitates successful transitions to mainstream, other Alternative Provision or specialist provision, when appropriate.

Post-16 Destinations

The preparation of children and young people for their next steps after year 11 including Careers Education, Information and Guidance (CEIAG), employability skills and transition support.

Alternative Provision

KB Education draws attention to aspects that are particularly pertinent for AP settings such as children and young people induction, the quality of education as well as physical and mental health and wellbeing.


A robust induction process that increases understanding of children and young people’ backgrounds and needs, supports decision-making and facilitates the development of positive relationships.

Attendance and engagement

The culture and systems of attendance and engagement that ensure high aspirations for children and young people, timely interventions and sustained improvement over time.

Supporting children and 
young people’s needs

Building relationships and understanding and adeptly supporting children and young people needs including their literacy, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, physical and mental health and wellbeing.

Assessment pathways:
The Graduated Response

Phoenix provision can be used as a part of the Graduated response to meeting individual children and young people’s needs. As part of the placement, assessment can take place to ensure an understanding of the needs and the desired outcomes for success
